We’re on a Roll -- Another Contest, Another Win for McKay-Cocker! (July 2010)

The London & District Construction Association (LDCA) recently ran a contest for the ‘craziest photo concept’ and selected McKay-Cocker’s idea for the cover of their annual publication.  It was an interesting creative process that our innovative team undertook and everyone was delighted to get the news that McKay-Cocker’s submission won.

Our winning concept was -- McKay-Cocker’s High Standards LEED the Way! . . . .  McKay-Cocker recognizes the importance of “building green” and is committed to sustainable construction for a healthier environment.  Our employees have embraced the LEED challenge and with the encouragement and support of senior management, we have a growing team of LEED Accredited Professionals.  Proud of their achievement, we wanted to recognize their hard work to provide our Owners and prospective Owners with the “environmental advantage”.  Hence, we submitted our idea for the ‘craziest photo concept’, with fingers crossed, that we would be selected to showcase our LEED Team on the cover of the LDCA magazine. To date, we have 9 employees that are LEED Accredited and several more in the process.

CN Rail Roundabout Overpass – Hale and Trafalgar Streets, London, ON (March 2010)
McKay-Cocker is currently building this unique structure (the first of its kind in London) to improve safety and expedite traffic flow over the CN rail tracks at this location.  Construction began in March, 2010 and when substantially complete (March, 2011), the bridge will measure 86 metres long by 25 metres wide with a grade difference of roughly nine metres.   The busy rail corridor handles an average of 47 trains per day at the crossing.

Over the years, bridge structures have been an integral part of McKay-Cocker’s construction portfolio, completing hundreds of bridges from Ottawa to Windsor, for all levels of government. Most of the overpasses in London, including the Highbury Ave, Quebec Street, and Adelaide Street, were built by our firm.  More recently, the Guy Lombardo Bridge, Adelaide Street North Bridge, the Queen’s Avenue extension and the Horton Street extension were also McKay-Cocker projects.  Forty-two structures on Highway 402 and fourteen structures on Highway 403, including the 403/ 401 interchange at Woodstock, were built by McKay-Cocker.
